Why we love beans....

Why we love beans....

Here at The Honest Bean Co, we never miss a chance to big up British pulses. But truly, there are so many reasons to fall in love with beans.

Here are just a few of them:

1. High protein and fibre heroes

Beans are the one of the best sources of dietary fibre and plant protein out there. The small but mighty fava bean contains a fibre feast with 8g of fibre per 100g and 25g of protein. Substantially more than wholemeal bread!

A high fibre diet helps you feel fuller for longer and has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

2. Packed with nutrients

Fava beans are incredibly nutrient-dense, containing fantastic levels of protein, vitamin B-12 and other vitamins and minerals. 100g of our fava beans contains:

  • Protein: 25g

  • Fibre: 15g

  • Fat: 13g

    • Of which saturates: 1.3g

  • Carbohydrate: 38g

    • Of which sugars: 2.2

  • Salt: 1g

3. British beans

We only use 100% British beans, which means minimal food miles and a smaller carbon footprint. It also means that we get to support British farmers and food producers, which is really important to us as farmers ourselves! Find out more about our story here.

3. So easy to love

Fava beans are amazingly simple to incorporate into your diet. Try adding handfuls of cooked beans to your soups, stews, risottos or salads for an instant nutrient boost. Have you tried them roasted yet? They absolutely hit the snack ball out of the park. Check out our shop to browse!
